What does this and this have in common?   The $30,000 Waterford Crystal NCAA Coach’s Trophy returned to Alabama for the first time since 1992.  And as they say, “When in Rome do as the Romans do.” the trophy made it’s first stop in the Tuscaloosa Wal-Mart as part of a two Wal-Mart tour.

I understand that this was all part of a promotion deal…but come on.  Have some common sense.  How embarrassing.  I understand putting it on display where it’s accessible to the common man, but couldn’t they have surrounded the trophy with Dr. Pepper at a hotel with a nice banquet room?  Even a nice clean rest stop somewhere off the interstate would have been less demeaning.

So, now on top of barely beating a Texas team with a true freshman quarterback, we slap some camouflage overalls on it and play Dueling Banjos for the national audience.  Maybe next year, Waffle House can pony up enough money to put it on display after the game, or why stop there?  Bring the thing to a cattle auction!  Plenty of people are exchanging plenty of money at those auctions, surely they can put up enough to bring it out for the people!

Congratulations, Tuscaloosa, you’ve officially put a straw hat on the beauty queen.
