Brett Fav….Ra

by No Call, No Show

I’m going to preface this article by saying that I am in no way a Brett Favre fan, and feel that his John Kerry like flip flopping on retirement is as tiring as watching True Life re-runs on MTV for a whole Saturday.  That being said, Brett Favre now has his team, who is coached by one of the bottom 10 head coaches in football, on the precipis of the Super Bowl.  Favre’s numbers put him in the discussion as being the greatest QB of all time, but for some reason, very few consider him to be in the top 3.   The reason he isn’t is because though Favre seems to be a team player, he more often then not makes decisions with the football that don’t give his team the best chance to win.

Favre is a “gunslinger” type QB, who takes huge risks, when most would throw the ball away.  His gunslinger mantality threw 6 INT’s against the Rams in the playoffs, threw an OT interception to send the Giants to the Super Bowl, and has cost his teams countless games.  The love-fest he gets from announcers who call him a kid having fun on the field, and his running 30 yards down the field to make meaningless blocks have rubbed many the wrong way.  This and the numerous occasions in which he seemed to be retired and come back just furthers these feelings of Anti FARVEism.  One thing that gets lost in all of the hoopla and tractors, is Brett Favre is a 3 time MVP, with 1 Super Bowl and the most consecutive starting streak, even if he got help from his previous addiction to medication.

In closing, Brett Favre will finish with a 1st ballot Hall of Fame career, but never belongs in the discussion as a top 3 QB of all time.  Mine are (Manning, Elway and Marino) On the other side of the playoff bracket is Peyton Manning, the QB who I believe when all is said and done will be the best QB of all time.  He has made Dallas Clark a pro bowl TE, Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, both practice squad type players into viable options on every play.  Peyton has so rarely made throws that at anytime jeopardizes his teams chances for winning.  THe crazy part about all of this is that Manning and Favre could meet in the Super Bowl, which would surely be the greatest QB matchup ever in a Super Bowl.
