You’ve Got to Be Kidding Me

by macrostafarian

Tim Tebow is going to be featured in a Super Bowl ad with his mommy. It’s a “Focus on the Family” ad, which is basically an anti abortion ad. I really don’t care what anyone thinks on this issue but I don’t think this sort of thing belongs during the Super Bowl. Remember a few years back when everyone had a hissy fit about the non issue of Janet Jackson’s boob? Currently, every other commercial is about getting a stiffy. After this one airs, your kids are going to ask you, “what’s an abortion?” Super.

First the crying, now this. Really, Tebow. This is ridiculous. I don’t know about you guys, but I prefer my athletes to be a little bit more manly. I am raising a son with love and kindness, I hope he grows up to be a good hearted person. I also hope he is a competitive beast on the field and on the ice. A MAN. There is no crying in baseball/football/hockey/basketball. You can be disappointed, and okay, you can cry, but go somewhere private. Holy hell. And then just prepare for your future as a professional athlete, don’t go all Jon Kitna on me. Next you’ll be guaranteeing wins that could not possibly ever come to pass.

If you’re going to run an ad with the pretext of planned parenthood with a college quarterback, give me one with Colt McCoy for Trojan saying, “No glove, no love,” or some such. More appropriate for the occasion and more appropriate for your kids too. I would rather explain that one. Maybe he’s not the best spokesperson for that, but Tebow is not exactly the best anti abortion spokesman either.

Advocacy advertising sucks. Can’t we just go back to a world where, during commercial breaks, Spuds McKenzie makes a comeback, horses dance, and scantily clad humans dance around half barrels?

The commercial is supposed to be a vague account of how Tim Tebow's mother was being urged to abort Tim Tebow and she didn't and look at how great he is now:

Of course, then there's also this:

So, I'm sure his dad was pleased with their eventual decision, too.
