Okay, maybe I could understand Tomlinson and Westbrook but this one is a little baffling to me. First of all, I have to share the embarrassing information that for years, every time I have heard the name Thomas Jones, this song has popped into my head which probably explains a lot about me. But let’s get back to the subject at hand.

Two seasons ago, Thomas Jones was my most coveted non Adrian Peterson/Michael Turner running back. He had 1312 yards for crying out loud! I was playing in a league with someone who abandoned their team mid season and I proposed every ridiculous trade I could think of to get him. Of course, this team had been forsaken to the point that they weren’t even checking to respond, “You’re an idiot” to me (or didn’t have the courtesy to tell me that). Last season I drafted him to great reward. 1402 rushing yards and a Championship for me. What are the Jets thinking?

I do believe that RBs, as they age, start to decline, and Jones is 31 years old which might as well be 80 in running back years. I am not a total idiot. I realize that they have Shonn Greene who had a pretty kickass rookie season and can probably pick up the slack for a lot less money. Jones was due a $5.8 million dollar bonus and did not perform up to expectations in the playoffs. But as they are a running back by committee team, they can’t just rely on Greene, and I’m sorry Leon Washington. You and your robo-knee are not going to suffice. You’re not going to be an elite running back. Ever. (Feel free to come back next season and tell me I’m a dumbass if I am wrong).

I really do think that this was just too soon to say goodbye to Thomas Jones. Maybe after next season, but Jets, dudes, Sanchez and Cotchery were not the big reasons you made the playoffs. So let the speculation begin as to just where he will land. ESPN’s Adam Schefter says the front runners are Houston, Cleveland, San Diego, and Seattle. San Diego? What? Whatever, I am obviously not suited to be an NFL GM, as I have no clue as to what goes through their heads. Send that man to Detroit. Or Green Bay.
