Baseball Prospectus contributor and InjuryExpert tweeter, Will Carroll, tweeted a blurb stating:

Ped suspension incoming.

The internet became instantly awash with speculation as to who this nameless “semi-big” player could be.  Slowly, more information came trickling out.

UPDATE:  I have learned that the PED suspension is NOT a New York player.

OK, 28 more teams to consider.

UPDATE II:  I have learned that the player to be suspended is a National League pitcher.

Ah HA!  Now that’s some whittling down.

So, I’m gonna put on my Carnac the Magnificent turban and take my shots in the ass dark:

Top Suspects (In Order)

1. Brett Myers – Wife punching, hard drinking, formerly injured, aging, and trying to re-establish himself.

2. Tim Hudson – Former powerhouse.  Pitching in a promising young rotation.  Been more injured than healthy lately, he might have reached for that lifeline.

3. Carlos Zambrano – Thinner, more inconsistent, less angry.  Not typical signs of a juicer…unless those are the post-busted, awaiting suspension blues we’re witnessing.

4. Barry Zito - Off to a 2-0 start with 1.86 ERA and 0.88 WHIP and 9 Ks after being damn near laughable for 7 consecutive seasons?

5. Edwin Jackson – Big potential a long time ago, nothing came of it.  Suddenly put it all together last year.  Hmmm….

6. Brad Penny – Off to a FAST start with 2-0 record, 1.29 ERA and 0.95 WHIP and 13 Ks.  Top that off with playing for Tony LaRussa AND Mark McGwire…  Too easy…

7. Ubaldo Jimenez – Wouldn’t THAT be terrible?  Guy pitches a no-no on Saturday, wrung up on Tuesday.  But, throwing over 100 takes a lot out of you…

I admit I just  threw Ubaldo in there to say “Man, that would hurt” if it was him (It’s probably not him.)  But, I wouldn’t be shocked to see any of those other six be the name that gets outed this week.  Am I overlooking anyone else?  Who do you think might be THAT guy this time?
